What happens in a class
Slow, simple, and nobody is watching you.
Feet on the floor, shoulders down. A few minutes settling the breath before anything else.
The Ba Duan Jin sequence, taught one piece at a time, at whatever pace suits the room.
What to move, when to breathe, what it is doing. No mysticism and nothing to believe in.

Before you come
The questions people ask.
I am not remotely flexible. Does that matter?
No. There is no stretching to get into, nothing held, and no floor work. If you can stand up and breathe, you can do this. Every movement can be done seated if standing is difficult.
Will I be the oldest person there?
Almost certainly not. The class is designed for people who want to keep moving well into their eighties, and that is who it is for.
What do I need to bring?
Nothing. Wear something comfortable you can move in, and flat shoes. There is no mat, no kit and nothing to buy.
Can I just turn up?
Yes, if there’s space, for £15 on the door. Booking online is £10 and guarantees your place, and classes can fill up.
What if I cannot make a Tuesday?
The Avebury class runs every Tuesday, 10–10.45am, until the end of November. In Marlborough, there are free taster sessions on Monday 7th December at 6pm and Wednesday 9th December at 1pm, with weekly classes from January. There is also a live 30-minute online class every Thursday at 6pm on Zoom from January.
I have an injury or a health condition. Is it suitable?
Qigong is gentle and widely adaptable, but it is not medical treatment and nothing here is a substitute for advice from your GP or physiotherapist. If you are managing something specific, check with them first, and tell me so the movements can be adapted.
Practise at home.
Burnout to Balance: The Opening is a seven-day written guide to the first two forms of Ba Duan Jin. Ten minutes a day, standing up, wherever you are.
